Mikel Arteta hopes he can continue talking football after his Arsenal team’s game against Sevilla in Spain on Tuesday.

Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr. was allegedly racially abused during Saturday’s LaLiga clash at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

Vinicius later took to social media to praise on-site staff for ejecting a fan and reporting him to authorities.

The Brazilian then said he had also seen footage of a child being abused and posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Congratulations to Sevilla for the quick positioning and punishment in another sad episode for Spanish football.”

“Unfortunately, I had access to a video of another racist act in the game this Saturday, this time by a child.

“I am very sorry that there is no one to enlighten you. I invest, and I invest a lot, in education in Brazil to train citizens with different attitudes than these.”

Just three days later, Arsenal will be guests in the Champions League Group C game.

Arteta echoed Vinicius’ sentiments and hopes he can still discuss the result when he addresses the media after Tuesday’s game.

“What I can say is that Sevilla reacted really strongly and quickly,” he said.

“Great. Let’s enjoy a nice football atmosphere. There’s hardly a better atmosphere than here and I hope that tomorrow we can just talk about football and enjoy this atmosphere.”

Arteta is expected to once again favor David Raya in goal over Aaron Ramsdale, despite the latter arriving despite reports he would remain in England following the birth of his child on Saturday.

The goalkeeper position at the Emirates Stadium has dominated discussion in recent weeks, particularly after a nervy performance from Raya in the 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Saturday.

Asked if Raya was suffering from the intensity of attention at the moment, Arteta replied: “I didn’t see that. If I’m being fair, I didn’t see that at all.

“That’s the pressure of playing at big clubs where you have to win and give your best and have someone by your side who pushes you every day.

“If we go player by player and position by position, you will tell me what is happening on the left side of the defense, what is happening with the defensive midfielder.

“That is the debate. That’s also the beauty of the game. Having other options will make these conversations happen more often.”
